Pierce Transit’s current Job Announcements are listed below. We are only able to accept applications for positions that are currently open. A separate application must be submitted for each job you are interested in applying for. All applications require an original signature. DATA MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR (FINANCIAL ANALYST)

The Position:
Under general direction, coordinates data management and reporting activities, performs complex data analysis and supports financial planning functions of the Agency. Essential functions: Develops, prepares and analyzes a variety of comprehensive financial and statistical reports for internal and external reporting purposes; assures compliance with all regulations; controls, maintains and validates a centralized system for reporting Agency statistics and data; analyzes the data for completeness and accuracy; develops, analyzes, controls and maintains the Cost Allocation Model (CAM); disseminates the results of the analysis to Agency staff for use in decision making; utilizes the Cost Allocation Model to price services; coordinates billing for services sold; manages systems to ensure data integrity and reliability; identifies measures or indicators of system performance and the areas needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system; confers with Information Systems personnel and vendors to resolve problems and develop solutions related to computerized systems and technology; assists with system conversions and upgrades; develops spreadsheets, collects, interprets, and performs complex analysis of data for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and regulations; prepares, coordinates and submits the National Transit Database (NTD) report and works with external auditors on the NTD audit;supports planning processes such as the Six-Year Financial Plan; creates and maintains reports utilizing financial systems and electronic spreadsheets; prepares presentations, documents, and materials utilizing appropriate software; works collaboratively with Agency personnel to resolve problems and coordinate work efforts; develops, prepares, analyzes and interprets financial and statistical reports and provides information and training to all levels of Agency staff; researches information, analyzes options, and recommends solutions to correct, or improve processes. Maintains division procedure and electronic files in compliance with Agency and legal requirements, maintains current information of the applicable regulations, and product and technological updates; assists in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR); represents the Agency and works with external partners; remains current on available computerized tools for applications to assigned finance functions and reviews software updates for impact on functional procedures and processes and applicable rules and regulations; develops and maintains policies and procedures in accordance with established Agency standards; assures compliance with Agency records retention requirements; serves on committees and makes presentations; maintains technical and professional knowledge by attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, taking classes or participating in development activities; and performs other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $53,254 - $64,730   Salary Range: $53,254 - $74,934 annually, paid on a bi-weekly basis

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Finance, General Business Administration, Information Systems, Accounting or a related field and four years of experience performing statistical analysis and report preparation functions;or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Desired: Experience in transit statistical analysis and reporting.

Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Research, report preparation, and presentation methods; basic mathematics; statistical and financial analysis methods; quality control and assurance principles;local, state and federal laws and regulations applicable to governmental entities; computer applications; and data validation and record-keeping techniques. Skill in: Preparing narrative, statistical, graphic and tabular reports; conducting research; compiling and analyzing data; recognizing problems and recommending solutions; recommending effective solutions and courses of action, and/or improvements to policies and procedures; understanding and interpreting data; coordinating information and working with staff; interpreting local, state and federal regulations; preparing, analyzing and distributing reports and information; performing analysis and drawing sound conclusions; understanding and using basic forecasting and research techniques; formulating procedures; developing and maintaining cost models; relating effectively with individuals at all levels within the Agency; representing the Agency effectively to outside individuals and agencies; communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; evaluating and establishing priorities and schedules; and, using computerized systems and equipment to perform complex statistical analysis, including advanced multi-level spreadsheet techniques.

RELIEF TRANSIT OPERATOR

About the position:
Driving a bus for Pierce Transit is a very important and highly rewarding job. If you would like to help serve customers throughout the Puget Sound region and work for a professional, innovative organization, read on to learn more about this exciting opportunity.

A Relief Transit Operator covers vacancies created by full-time operators who are unavailable for reasons such as vacations, sick leave or training time. After an initial training period, all new employees begin in part-time positions and are promoted to full-time positions based on seniority as vacancies occur. Relief Operators are guaranteed a minimum of 25 hours per week, but could work 40 or more hours depending on the needs in any given week. Relief Transit Operators must be available seven days a week and your hours will vary greatly from day to day. Our operating hours begin at 2:22 a.m. and continue until 1:29 a.m. Relief Operators are expected to drive any shift and any route including nights, holidays, weekends, mornings, split shifts and trippers (2-4 hour shifts, up to 3 per day).

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of passenger buses and vans for the public transportation system of Pierce County. You will operate passenger buses and vans on regular as well as special routes, adhere to all traffic regulations, collect fares, issue transfers, and provide verbal information to the public regarding routes, schedules and transfer points; you will communicate and interact with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities; complete written reports; promote good passenger relations, and inspect the bus or van before and after operation of the vehicle. Work is performed under general supervision with the employee being responsible for maintaining schedules and for the safe and proper operation of equipment. Punctuality and regular attendance are required so that we may provide dependable service to the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire

Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License at the time of hire

Have an excellent driving record for the previous five years. All violations (including non-moving violations) will be reviewed on an individual basis and may be cause for disqualification

Possess a Commercial Driver Instruction Permit (CDIP) with a third party testing certificate by the first day of training

Ability to obtain a valid Washington State Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with passenger and airbrake endorsements

Ability to meet strict physical requirements, which will be determined by a physical exam including a drug screen. The Agency and the examining physician will look for conditions that are likely to interfere with the applicant’s ability to perform the essential functions of the job and to safely operate and control a motor vehicle.

Must have knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances and safety rules.

Successful public contact experience and a stable paid or volunteer work history are desirable.

Wage:
$14.19 per hour during training (approximately 13 weeks)

Relief Transit Operators range from $15.77 - $18.38 per hour

Full-time Transit Operators range from $18.36 - $23.74 per hour

Benefits:

All Relief Transit Operators receive medical, dental and sick leave benefits. Medical benefits begin the first day of the month following date of hire and dental benefits begin the first day of your seventh month of employment. Sick leave is earned on a pro-rated basis after the completion of six months of employment.

Relief Transit Operators will not earn holiday pay while on part-time status. However, upon completion of six months of employment, will be eligible for six paid vacation leave days to be used within 12 calendar months. This time may be used in hourly, daily, or weekly increments.

All new employees of Pierce Transit belong to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. Employees do not participate in the social security system, except a 1.45% payment for Medicare.

Other benefits include life insurance, deferred compensation plans with an employer match of up to 4% of annual compensation, long term disability insurance, a flexible spending account for eligible heath care and/or dependent care expenses and a family bus pass.

Selection Procedure:

All applicants will be invited to take a video test that measures your ability to deal with a variety of situations involving customer relations and safety issues when dealing with the public. There are no study guides available. The test is held approximately once a month and you will receive notification by mail with the date, time and location of the test. Applicants who pass the video test will have their names entered on a list of eligibles that will be valid for up to twelve months. Names will be selected for interview consideration from this list based on a number of screening and selection criteria. Pierce Transit reserves the right to hire the most competitive applicants.

TRANSIT SECURITY SERGEANTS

Closing Date: Open until filled. Initial review July 21, 2008.

The Position:
NOTE: 3 positions to be hired in 2008 and an additional 3 positions to be hired January 2009.
Under supervision, provides security functions for the Pierce Transit system, including all employees, customers and assets. Provides direct supervision and monitors daily performance of Transit Security Officers. Serves as the agency Incident Commander with emergency related incidents that occur in the transit system and responds to public safety related calls for service. Serves as a direct liaison between the transit system and other first responders. Essential functions: Ensures that assignments to Transit Security Officers provides ongoing coverage of critical aspects of transit system security. Sets performance expectations for Transit Security Officers, observes, mentors, and evaluates the quality of the performance of duties, recognizes excellence and administers corrective or recommends disciplinary action as appropriate. Conducts preliminary incident investigations and interviews; evaluates incident to determine if law enforcement intervention is required, and initiates request for assistance. Conducts directed patrols; conducts foot patrol. Serves as a liaison for Pierce Transit with other government entities on issues of public safety and security; participates in emergency preparedness exercises. May serve as the training Sergeant to ensure agency-wide security related training is accomplished as required. Serves as an agency point of contact for all Public Safety and Emergency Management issues. Supports the transit communication center and other field operations during all public safety related incidents and assists with coordinating response to those incidents. Supports and promotes the Pierce Transit vision, mission, and goals for public safety. Communicates via radio, e-mail, and cell phone; responds to calls for service. Completes reports; testifies in court as required. Properly classifies criminal activity into the appropriate FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Part I and Part II crime; enters information into a database; takes photographs, appropriately utilizes Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) platforms for investigative purposes and maintains an operational skill level and knowledge of crime prevention through environmental design concepts. Reports all suspicious and criminal activity that occurs within the transit system to the appropriate staff or organizations to document the event and provide for follow-up.

Hiring Range: $49,309 - $59,936      Salary: $ 49,309 - $69,383 annually, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Basic knowledge of criminal justice system and criminal law; basic transit security fundamentals; policies and procedures regarding access to buildings, vehicles, and property. Skills in: Must be able to operate a radio, Nextel two-way communications, computer, basic word processing, have entry level database skills. Communicate effectively with a diverse customer base, staff and organizations.  Use of emergency tactics such as first aide, fire extinguishers as situations might require; verbally diffuse or de-escalate tense, intimating or threatening situations; remain calm and focused in situations where personal safety or safety of others may appear to be at risk; understand and apply written and verbal directions; use sound, independent judgment within the scope of authority, policies, and procedures; maintain positive working relationships with staff, customers, and supporting organizations, such as law enforcement, to promote confidence in the safe and secure delivery of Transit services.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: High school diploma or GED; five years experience in public transportation, law enforcement, corrections, public security or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. No major traffic violations within the last 5 years, no felony convictions, no misdemeanor convictions involving drugs, moral turpitude, or theft. Desired: Two years supervisory experience.  Experience in public transportation security. Associates degree in criminal justice or related field; experience in military police, law enforcement, professional security, or related field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, night shifts and holidays. Mandatory rotational shift and subject to call-out. Must be available to respond to security incidents throughout the service area. Must be able to perform duties in adverse working conditions such as inclement weather. Must be able to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license prior to employment and successfully pass a thorough criminal and civil background check. Must complete basic defensive driving course. Must successfully complete first level supervision training course if appointed.
