The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced grant awards today for its Buses and Bus Facilities and Low or No Emission Programs. Pierce Transit was awarded a $6.7 million Low or No Emission grant to purchase seven new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to replace aging buses that have reached the end of their useful life.

Funding from the FTA grants will help modernize America’s bus infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and help people travel more efficiently and affordably. These competitive grants will also create living-wage jobs in both rural and urban communities across the country.

Approximately $2 billion in competitive funding was awarded to 165 projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia through the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities and Low or No Emission Programs.

FTA’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program supports transit agencies in buying and rehabilitating buses and vans and building bus maintenance facilities.

FTA’s Low or No Emission Program helps help transit agencies buy or lease U.S.-built low- or no-emission vehicles, including related equipment or facilities.
