Key Performance Indicators

One of the best ways to ensure an organization is constantly improving is to track “Key Performance Indicators,” or KPIs. KPIs are a set of quantifiable measures that an organization uses to gauge its performance and determine if it is meeting its strategic and operational goals. Pierce Transit is very much focused on using KPIs to help us know whether we are moving toward attaining our goals and, if not, where to focus our attention.

By using KPIs to track our progress, we are able to make data-driven decisions that better serve our customers and the people of Pierce County who fund the services we provide.

Peer Insights: National Transit Database Comparison

The Peer Insights Dashboard is an interactive tool created by Pierce Transit Data Analytics using 2018–2024 data from the National Transit Database (NTD). It brings important transit performance measures into one easy-to-use place. Users can compare agencies, explore trends over time, and review key statistics like ridership and efficiency to better understand how transit systems are performing.

The dashboard is designed to be clear and accessible. The Data Table is the main feature, allowing users to view and sort the data behind the charts and rankings. Users can also choose different comparison groups—such as peer agencies, Washington State agencies, or agencies across the country—to see results in the right context and make informed decisions.
